Is it December already? Holy nutflakes! Where did the year go? It’s almost a year since we started this series (yay us!) and here’s edition #31 with Kiera Knightley, model Hannah Shakespeare and tomboy style brand Tradlands all making appearances. Let’s go-go-go!
We can’t believe it’s December already! It feels like the year skateboarded past us and left some whiplash we didn’t really recover from and so this is edition #31 of our weekly Inspiring Tomboy Style Looks of the Week and we’re stalking everyone on Instagram and beyond to bring you this week’s look.
In case you didn’t know what this series is all about – well, we started it to celebrate and appreciate the women who are inventing their own timeless inspiring classic tomboy style looks. So check out the cool tomboy styles of this week’s amazing personalities down below and hashtag us at #tomboytarts on Instagram with full-length pictures of yourselves if you want to be *featured.
So let’s get cracking on.
G. Schwan is designed and hand painted by Gabby Schwan, who began making the “flame denim” in April of 2016 out of Los Angeles, CA. The denim was recently featured on Hypebae in an editorial for “Places + Faces” during Paris Fashion Week. To read the full article click here. @ALICEVX FOR BRITISHGIRLS_MAGAZINE
If you know us, you’d know that we celebrate the classic tomboy style that was pushed hard by our style icons, Amelia Earhart, Patti Smith, Marlene Dietrich and Diane Keaton. The British Teddy Girls and penchant for preppy fashion is also a huge influence on us which is why we were thrilled to learn about British Girls Magazine. British Girls is a covetable, softbound magazine celebrating the individualism, beauty, energy and attitude of young British models. What’s great about it is that they also kick ass on a lot of sharp and classic tomboy style fashion. Follow them on Instagram or if you’re in London, pick up their magazine in selected shops. In this picture, Alice Buckingham channels 50s boarding school prep with the lapelled tweed jacket and beret. Best get your homework done before the headmistress comes in and raps you for this look.
@KIERA KNIGHTLEY FOR VOGUE
What can we say? Kiera Knightley is just the quintessential British gentlewoman along with Princess Kate M. These women have impeccable taste for classic tomboy styled outfits that take them from adventure to adventure. In this amazing safari-themed VOGUE photoshoot Kiera sports a cool stripey fitted shirt with khakis and a gypsy-styled scarf. It’s perfect for those easy days out in the wild. We just wish they didn’t photoshop her face so much. She kinda looks like she had her eyes tattooed with permanent eyeliner.
Ever wanted to dapper your life beyond just that fitted tux suit? Then you gotta follow Bauss.Co – they’re another great Instagram lifestyle account, like British Girls Magazine that celebrates the modern day gentlewoman. To that we say yes! We’d like our martinis shaken not stirred in this classic tomboy styled look that can take you from the office to a suave evening cocktail at a Montenegro resort. If you see James Bond after wearing this look, remember to introduce yourself as Agent 008.
Hannah Shakespeare’s moniker may bring the bard to mind, but she’s far from a classicist. With her septum piercing and Afropunk style, Shakespeare brings the fashion show to the streets. Brands like Mulberry, Margaret Howell, and Julien Macdonald have already taken note, tapping her for their catwalks this season. Off the runway, Hannah is a tomboy-style fanatic as well, pulling off this Afro-punk look effortlessly with cut off denim vest and ripped black skinnies. Anyone hear Afrika Bambaata’s Planet Rock soundtracking this photo?
Tradlands is the brand for tomboys looking for great button down shirts to achieve great casual or professional tomboy chic style. In this outfit of the day, the model dons The Quilo button down which is perfect for those outdoor winter days. This deep thaw blue mid-weight flannel shirt is a light against the winter darkness. To find out what other shirts they’ve got for X’mas, check out the selection on their official website.
