This August in our Funny Women Diaries, Kate is heading up to Edinburgh for the festival fringe and taking over the producing of the Funny Women monthly showcase at Brighton in her quest for comedy domination. Any takers for a night at Komedia?

Having just recovered from the Brighton Festival Fringe in May, where I saw some amazing comedy talent, I’m preparing to head up to Edinburgh for the famous comedy rite of passage that is the festival fringe. If you are someone who is very organised, who colour codes spreadsheets and never has more than a couple of tabs open on your browser, then the sight of my laptop screen (which, at the last count had 23 tabs open) and the scribbled on envelope currently serving as a calendar next to me would probably horrify you. Every year when organising my Edinburgh Fringe schedule I swear I will be more organised and every year I fail to improve upon my hectic scheduling style. Still, it seems to work for me and you can’t fail to catch some amazing shows and meet talented folk at the Edinburgh Fringe.

In addition to Edinburgh planning, I recently took over producing our Funny Women monthly showcase at Brighton Komedia. This is a great night where we book some of the best women on the comedy circuit to perform at this fantastic venue in the North Laine of Brighton. As a local, I remember when the Komedia was in a dingy little venue on the corner of a somewhat seedy side street. Now it’s a fabulous venue with two performance spaces (the studio and the main room) that does great food, a little bar AND has joined forces with the local arts cinema The Dukes to create some screen rooms with the comfiest sofas to sit back and watch arthouse films that you just can’t catch at the Odeon. So I am very excited and proud to be one of the people behind the scenes at Komedia!

I look forward to becoming drunk on power and dangling the prospect of being booked for ‘my little night at the Komedia’ in front of any women comics I like. Perhaps I shall take up smoking a cigar to complete the look. What do you think?

Mark your calendars down for September 30 as Funny Women hosts a night of fabulous female comedy talent in Brighton’s best comedy venue, Komedia Brighton, Get your tickets here
